The unit caters for up to twenty patients, and includes an adolescent area, transplant suites and individual cubicles. Many of the patients have regular admissions and are keen to keep up with their schoolwork, so to ensure continuity for them, there is a designated teacher based on the ward during afternoons. The teacher links in with children’s home schools to plan and provide appropriate work for them whilst they are in hospital. Children are taught at the bedside in the ward areas or in the Oncology classroom where appropriate.
