Art Curriculum KS3

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum encourages a high quality ‘art, craft and design’ education, which aims to engage, inspire and challenge our pupils.

Our intention is to ensure that all pupils get the opportunity to produce creative work, and learn new skills whilst using a range of techniques in drawing, painting, textiles, photography and mixed media. Pupils are encouraged to explore ideas, evaluate their own work, as well as the work of other artists, and as they progress, be able to think critically. They will develop an understanding of the visual language of art and design, and how this contributes to our society and culture.

Our assessments identify any particular needs that an individual pupil may have, and allows us to give the support needed in a positive and encouraging environment. Assessments occur throughout the year at ACE as part of progression through the curriculum.

Art Curriculum KS4

Our Key Stage 4 curriculum seeks to actively engage pupils in the creative process of ‘art, craft and design’. Pupils have the opportunity to choose GCSE in this subject, or simply enjoy the creative programme of lessons, and learn new skills for life.

The GCSE programme is designed to provide an engaging, challenging and meaningful learning experience, which both delivers and plans ways to work to the strengths of individual pupils. Pupils develop as effective and independent learners and become confident when exploring and experimenting with images and techniques, alongside developing critical understanding through their own work, and that of other artists.

ACE provides a supportive and positive learning environment, that works effectively supporting each pupil’s individual strengths. The non GCSE programme, allows all pupils to participate in a wide variety of creative lessons throughout the year. It encourages them and builds confidence as they progress whilst learning new skills.

Some pupils move on to post-16 art courses at College.
